Why you should get Mum a float for Mother’s Day

"What should I get my mother for Mother’s Day?" My mum is notoriously hard to buy for. Here is how a float solved it — and five reasons it might solve yours too.

An hour of blissful silence — the gift Mum rarely gives herself.

"What should I get my mother for Mother’s Day?" "What should I buy Mum that she’ll actually like?" "Unique gifts for Mum" — all sitting in my recent search history.

My mother is notoriously hard to get gifts for. Jewellery makes her skin break out, she hates bouquets and can’t keep live plants alive. She doesn’t like chocolate or anything found on the usual "Gifts Your Mother Will Love" lists, and she most definitely lives too far away to whisk off for brunch.

While pondering all of this, I remembered that my local float centre sells gift certificates — andddd boom, my problem was solved.

Giving a hard-working mother the gift of relaxation seems so obvious that I’m not sure how anyone will be unwrapping anything else this year. If you’re still on the fence, allow me to share my reasoning.

1. Mums work hard and rarely get time to themselves

(Driving to pick up the kids does not count.) An hour of sweet, blissful silence is probably pretty rare in her life.

2. Everyone is affected by stress — and mothers often carry everyone else’s

Float tanks are well known for helping reduce stress and anxiety. Some people report feeling more relaxed for days after a single float session.

3. Pregnancy means more weight and a lot less comfort

Floating is a wonderful way for expectant mothers to take some of that pressure off their bodies. (For the record, my mother isn’t pregnant — but my best friend is, so she’s getting a Mother’s Day float too.)

4. Mothers get busy caring for everyone but themselves

Taking time out to relax in a float tank is about so much more than that hour — it’s about making herself a priority for a brief, wonderful moment in time.

5. Cheeky of me, but it’s also incredibly easy to sort

This thoughtful gift skips the shopping mall entirely — Mum’s present sorted in the time it takes a website to load. I’m all in.

The most thoughtful gift isn’t a thing. It’s an hour to herself.

Sort it in minutes with a Float Culture gift voucher — redeemable for float, contrast or massage. She’ll thank you for days.
