02 — Contrast Therapy

Fire & Ice.

Move between deep sauna heat and the shock of a cold plunge. An ancient ritual, refined - your circulation opens, your body recovers, and your mind learns to stay calm under pressure.

What is contrast therapy?

Heat, then cold. Then again.

Contrast therapy alternates hot and cold exposure to pump blood through the body and train the nervous system. The heat dilates your vessels; the cold contracts them - together they create a circulatory flush that heat or cold alone can't match.

The sauna

Dry heat around 80-90°C relaxes muscles, opens blood vessels and triggers a deep, healthy sweat.

The plunge

A cold plunge near 4-5°C constricts vessels, calms inflammation and sparks a surge of alertness.

The contrast

Cycling between the two is where the magic lives — circulation, recovery and a steadier mind.

The Benefits

Stress the body, strengthen it.

Contrast therapy is hormesis in practice - small, deliberate stress that leaves you more resilient than before.

Faster recovery

Flush metabolic waste and ease muscle soreness after training, sport or a long week.

Better circulation

The pump of dilation and constriction moves fresh, oxygenated blood through every tissue.

Less inflammation

Cold exposure calms swelling and overactive inflammatory responses across the body.

Stronger immunity

Regular contrast is linked to a more robust immune response and fewer down days.

Mood & energy

The cold triggers a clean rush of noradrenaline — focus and a bright, lasting lift.

Mental resilience

Staying calm in the cold is a trainable skill that follows you out into daily life.

The Fire & Ice Ritual

How a round flows.

A typical session is three to four rounds over 60 minutes. Listen to your body - there's no prize for pushing.

Warm in the sauna

10–15 minutes of dry heat until you're sweating freely and your muscles let go.

Plunge the cold

1–3 minutes in the cold plunge. Breathe slow and steady, and let the body settle.

Rest & breathe

A few minutes at room temperature. Notice the tingle of blood returning to the surface.

Repeat the cycle

Three to four rounds, finishing on cold to leave energised — or heat to leave deeply calm.

The cold doesn't ask you to be tougher. It teaches you to stay calm.

— On the practice of contrast

Stack the practice

Float, then contrast.

Our favourite pairing: begin with a float to quiet the mind and melt away tension, then move into your Fire & Ice rounds to fire up circulation and leave energised. Surrender first, then effort - the most complete reset we offer.

Good to know

Fire & Ice, answered.

Is the cold plunge safe for me?
For most healthy people, yes. If you're pregnant or have a heart condition, high blood pressure or another medical concern, check with your doctor first - and always tell our team so we can guide you.
How cold is the plunge, really?
Around 4-5°C. It's a genuine shock for the first few seconds, but with slow breathing, your body settles quickly. You're always in control and can step out whenever you like.
What should I bring or wear?
Bring swimwear or go nude. Bring a towel. Arrive hydrated, and we'd suggest avoiding a heavy meal in the hour before your session.
How often should I do contrast therapy?
Two to three times a week is a strong rhythm for recovery and resilience, but even a weekly session delivers real benefit. It pairs beautifully with training days.
Can I combine it with a float or massage?
Absolutely — and we recommend it. Contrast before a float deepens the reset, and contrast before a massage leaves the muscles warm and easy to work.
